New students cannot help but be excited by our bright and open chemistry laboratories when they first arrive. We aim to build on this enthusiasm by incorporating as much practical work as possible from the very start, ensuring that students become confident, dexterous and safe chemists.
The Year 7 and 8 course was revised for 2018–19 to integrate IT into the curriculum and we are excited to take this into its second year. Students will make use of an online textbook as well as the superb resources and interactive activities provided by Kerboodle. In Year 7 students cover the basics of elements and the periodic table and through experimental investigations discover acids, alkalis and the methods of separating mixtures. In Year 8 the students learn about the major types of chemical reactions but also crucial topics such as catalysis and environmental chemistry. We also aim to build on the previous year be introducing the fundamentals of experimental design.
