In the first week of half-term a group of Year 10 and 11 Italian students went to Italy for eight days on the first leg of the exchange to the partner school in Novara near Milan. The visit included two days in school in which the girls were able to immerse themselves into the life of students in the school. In addition to this there were visits to Milan, Turin and Verona giving the girls a great insight into the history and culture of the cities whilst learning about the Unification of Italy, Renaissance Art of Leonardo da Vinci, the history and techniques of cinema and also visiting an amphitheatre and the house of Juliet putting their knowledge of Shakespeare into practice.
The girls were a credit to St Helen’s, throwing themselves into the experience to improve their spoken fluency and further develop their comprehension skills. We now look forward to the return of the Italians in March 2018.
