The annual House Music competition took place in YPH with students competing for the coveted House Music Trophy and for the crucial points which all count towards the final tally. All four Houses produced a varied programme of solos, ensembles and the ever important House Song which sees the whole house on stage singing together. The standard was extremely high this year and our visiting adjudicator, Kate Fawcett, had a tough job on her hands! Best Solo was awarded jointly to Year 8 Beth (clarinet) and Lower Sixth Alice (bassoon), with commendations to Caitlin (L6H) and Ella (L6E); Best Ensemble went jointly to Duffield for their swingin’ performance of It Don’t Mean A Thing and Benedict for their string ensemble’s The Entertainer; Hayward were awarded Best Presentation and Paterson won Best House Song for their rousing rendition of Take That’s Shine. The overall, and well-deserving, winners of House Music were Benedict.
