The annual House Music competition took place in YPH with girls from Years 5–10 and Lower Sixth competing for the coveted House Music Trophy and for the crucial points which all count towards the final tally that sees one House crowned champions for the year. Each of the four Houses (Benedict, Duffield, Hayward and Paterson) presented a 30-minute programme which included a soloist from the Junior School, Lower School, Middle School and Sixth Form; an ensemble of 4–10 individual parts and a House Song in which every member of the House performed. The songs chosen by the Houses this year were: From Now On (Hayward), Wavin’ Flag (Paterson), Mamma Mia! (Benedict) and When I Grow Up (Duffield). The standards were incredibly high and the atmosphere, whilst inevitably partisan was also incredibly supportive of all our performers. The external adjudicator Aliye Cornish had and unenviable and extremely difficult task. She highly commended solo performances by Molly (Year 8), Almond (Year 5) and Sofia (Year 6) before awarding the prize for best soloist to Isabella in Year 7 for her rendition of Tambourin by Gossec on the marimba. Best ensemble went to Benedict (Jasmine, Caroline, Charlotte and Isabel) for their performance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, whilst Paterson won best presentation and stagecraft and Hayward were awarded best House Song. The biggest prize of the morning went to Duffield as overall winners, with Benedict in 2nd place, Paterson 3rd and Hayward 4th.
