On the evening of 28 February, the Science Atrium was once again transformed in to the jazz café, an annual musical highlight which everyone looks forward to. After many rehearsals, the concert was finally in full swing. The evening showcased many of the schools’ finest jazz musicians and ensembles. The audience were treated to a variety of solos throughout the evening with performances from the piano, violin, flute, saxophone and voice. The Year 11 rock group ‘Highway to Helkats’ certainly had the audience humming along as they gave their renditions of Holding out for a Hero and Summer Nights from Grease. Other highlights included the two tremendous saxophone ensembles who showed their ability to play and work together as an ensemble as they gave performances of Grease Lightning, Groovy Kind of Love and I Believe in We. The evening began and ended with the fabulous Big Band who entertained the audience with their lively and uplifting playing, including performances of Duke Ellington’s swingin’ Do Nothin’ Till You Hear From Me to the uptempo I Got You (I Feel Good) by James Brown. They ended the wonderful evening with their version of Forget You which had many of the audience beaming with delight. Many thanks to the fabulous Olivier and his team for providing such delicious food and drink throughout the evening and congratulations to all girls involved, the evening was a huge success.
