SHSK Society members were invited to our inaugural professional networking event for those working in the legal sector. We are most grateful to Old Girl Belinda Bucknall QC for arranging for us to host the evening within the impressive library of Quadrant Chambers on Fleet Street.
It was fantastic to welcome alumnae from all stages of their professional lives, from law undergraduates to Resident Judge.
SHSK alumnae, Her Honour Judge Cutts QC gave an inspiring keynote address with strong messages about having self-belief and the problem of professional perfectionism which women can feel limited by. With regards to career development Judge Cutts advised “Take the opportunities when they arise, you never know if, or when, they may arise again”
During the question and answer session, and throughout the networking session, the overwhelming consensus was that there has never been a better time to be a female in the workplace, and that there is great evidence of positive change happening in the legal profession which is creating many more strong female role models.
Old Girls chatted well into the evening, sharing their workplace experiences. There was great positivity about holding further events of this kind, and we are extremely keen to host future sessions, covering a variety of industries and sectors. Our next event takes place in Oxford in September. More details to follow.
