The audience of this term’s Singers’ Concert was treated to an hour of wonderful performances from students in Years 7–Upper Sixth on Wednesday 18 May in the soothing surroundings of the Chapel.
With many pieces offering thoughts on the perennial theme of love, the students presented songs from a wide selection of artists and composers from Christina Perri and Madness, through to musical theatre favourites by Lin Manuel Miranda and Andrew Lloyd Webber, and on to Classical composers including Quilter, L’Estrange and Maconchy.
Being many students’ first time performing solo, or for the first time in several years, it was wonderful to see the burgeoning talent in Lower and Middle School, as well as having the opportunity to celebrate the contributions of some of the departing Upper Sixth who demonstrated huge artistry and technical control in their performances. We shall miss them very much as they move on to the next phase of their lives, but we were left with no doubt that the future of the vocal department is in safe hands for the years to come!
