Strings Concert 2022

May 2022

On Tuesday 3 May, the first musical concert of Trinity term took place. String players and parents congregated in the Science Atrium to recognise the musical talent exhibited by the students at St Helen and St Katharine.

The evening celebrated music from all around the world including Spain, France, Italy and Uruguay, with a total of fourteen performances which ranged in age and number of performers. The Bernstein Trio played two Romanian folk songs, and the Cello and Bass Squad performed El Cóndor Pasa with the help of two rainsticks to give the piece an authentic Peruvian sound.

A highlight of the evening was hearing Simone (8J) playing the Guzheng, a Chinese plucked zither, which produced a unique and memorable sound. Towards the end of the evening, Camerata performed Gershwin’s Lullaby, which highlighted the unique yet cohesive sounds of the cellos, violins, violas and double bass. It was evident that a lot of practise had gone into the performances, and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the concerts this term have to offer.
