Lower Sixth student Anna has won a place on an incredibly exciting expedition to the Arctic this summer.
Discovering cold environments for the first time in Year 9 Geography, I was struck by the stunning beauty and complexity of remote regions in Greenland and Canada as well as the challenges that they face in balancing environmental conservation with economic development. I applied for Students on Ice because it is an incredible opportunity to experience these places in real life. During the trip with students from around the world I will encounter not only the physical features of the Arctic landscape but also the inspiring local communities, learning more about their culture and ability to survive in such a hostile environment. Through this I hope to improve my teamwork and data collection skills and develop a better understanding of the Arctic with a view to promoting positive change in the region in the future.
