It was the turn of our younger musicians to present their performances at the end of term. On an extremely warm evening, the performers produced a charming programme of ensemble performances. The concert began with the Junior Choir performing songs from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Greatest Showman, and other choral items included Lower School Choir, tackling beautiful repertoire by Sherman and Sherman and Armstrong Gibbs and 8ve who reprised their moving performance of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Instrumental ensembles were represented by Team Pachelbel’s highly enjoyable La Cucaracha and Tootles stunning performance of Purcell’s March from Funeral Music for Queen Mary. Our two orchestras, Sinfonia and Sinfonietta included items from Mary Poppins and La La Land as well as a conducting debut by Anisha Tennant in Year 9 who directed Sinfonietta in a performance of Grieg’s Morning from Peer Gynt. The evening was suitably concluded with Wind Band’s energy and flair and the performers deserve a great deal of credit for maintaining such high standards at the very end of a long and busy year.
