On 20 November Beth (9M), Grace (9M), Giulia (10M) and I went to the Top of The Bench competition at the University of Oxford. We were all determined to win. Prior to the competition, we had to make a poster on an element of our choice and prepare in case we were asked questions by the judges. We worked hard on our poster and we were happy with the final result. When we got to the university we had lunch and were then given two hours to complete two different practical challenges. The laboratory was enormous and there were endless supplies of apparatus and equipment. The practical challenges were very hard but we worked together as a team and managed to finish them all. I found it really enjoyable; it was definitely my favourite part of the day. At the end of the day the judges announced the results. We didn’t win which was a bit disappointing, but I feel that I came out of this experience a better chemist and I had a lot of fun.
