Partnerships in careers and higher education
Opening up opportunities
Through our careers and higher education service we are able to extend the experiences available to St Helen’s students to many others in state schools.
We host several careers-focused events for Years 11 to Upper Sixth at partner schools to aid their transition from school and provide tools to make the best possible choices.
The St Helen’s Careers Department holds a week-long event when St Helen’s and Larkmead School Upper Sixth can access an excellent range and depth of information about university courses. Teaching staff run sessions to help students in particular consider science, technology, engineering and mathematics as future study options.
Upper Sixth students from St Helen’s, Larkmead, Fitzharrys and John Mason Schools are given the opportunity to experience a university interview with a focus on Oxford and Cambridge, giving students constructive feedback and boosting confidence.
Year 11 and Sixth Form students from local schools come to hear speakers from universities about applying for medicine, veterinary science or Oxbridge entrance. This event strengthens links between the schools and universities and increases students’ and parents’ understanding of the courses.
St Helen’s alumnae are an important source of encouragement, advice and expertise at these events. Old Girls come back regularly to give talks about careers and give insights into their profession to St Helen’s students and students at local schools.
