The Oxford Music Festival took place over three weekends at the end of January and the start of February, culminating in the festival concert in February half-term. Isabella (Year 9) tells us about her experience of taking part.
The Oxford Music Festival provided an opportunity to perform, whether singing or instrumental, solo or ensemble, alongside other musicians and receive feedback from a professional adjudicator who was friendly as well as being very beneficial! It also enabled performers to listen and learn from each other. This was the first time that the festival had taken place since 2020 and I really enjoyed playing the violin with Camerata and also being able to hear the Cello and Bass Squad and the Violas! perform. Violas! won the Gwen Archer Cup for the best performance in ensemble classes.
The chance to sing in public really develops your skills and self-confidence and I was very grateful to receive the Michael Howard Cup for the best performance in all the junior vocal classes. Congratulations also to Luella, Darcey and the Grenadilla Trio who won their classes and to Samrakshini who was awarded the Louise Donaghy trophy for her piano trio performance with two other local musicians.
The festival concert on Sunday evening displayed an incredible range of musical ability across instruments and ages, with the trophies being presented at the end by the Lord Mayor of Oxford. Thank you and well done to everyone involved.
