Abingdon Young Adult Book Award

Donna Pocock-Bell, Librarian

On Thursday 9 March the Library played host to the Abingdon Young Adult Book Award 2023. A group of Year 11 students from St Helen’s were joined by reading groups from other local schools – including John Mason School, Fitzharrys School, Radley College, Our Lady’s Abingdon Larkmead School and Europa School – to be quizzed on a list of shortlisted books and vote for their favourite.

Local bookshop Mostly Books very kindly donated a prize table full of books for the winning quiz team and Radley College donated a trophy which will reside at the winning school for one year before it is contested. Congratulations to this year’s winners from Europa! And, the book voted winner of the Abingdon Young Adult Book Award was… Wicked Little Deeds by Kat Ellis.

The Abingdon Young Adult Book Award 2023 shortlist:

  • Medusa: The Girl Behind the Myth
  • The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot
  • Wicked Little Deeds
  • The Eternal Return of Clara Hart
  • Why is Nobody Laughing
  • Rutherford and Fry’s Complete Guide to Absolutely Everything.
