From the Director of Sport
Dear Parents, students and supporters of the Helkats community.
I welcome you to the Lent edition of the Sports Newsletter at the end of a term which has been full of the final stages of many national competitions for various sports teams. This year, we have brought forward the Sports Awards Evening so that we can include all year groups and not have the inevitable exam period clash. It will be wonderful to welcome back Old Girl and semi professional rugby player, Ella Lovibond (2020), and Senior England Lacrosse star, Emma Savage to speak to the students. The full report will be in the Trinity newsletter.
We are excited to announce that we will be hosting our first Dance Show for many years, which will take place in May. Do sign up for your complimentary tickets via the letter in the Weekly Mailing. As the athletics, cricket and tennis seasons approach, we look forward to all the associated events and fixtures as well as our annual Sports Day. There is an open athletics competition against local schools for any student who would like to have a go before the season starts fully. Please encourage your daughter to sign up for the event on Monday 28 April on the athletics board in the PE Department. Sports clubs and fixtures will start during the first week of the Trinity term and a copy of the extracurricular timetable is at the end of this newsletter. The much anticipated Helkats vs Abingdon Leavers’ lacrosse match has been rearranged for Thursday 8 May on the school site at 4.20pm –
spectators are welcome. As ever, keep up to date with fixtures and events via our sports website.
The Year 8 and 10 ski trip departs very early on the Saturday morning at the start of the Easter holidays. Six days of skiing in Les Menuires is an exciting way to learn or develop your skills with your friends. Do let me know if you wish to have more details about the current waiting list for the 2026 trip (for current Year 7 and 9 students).
I am extremely grateful to Mr Clements for providing fantastic photos of our students playing sport, which has enabled me to create a ‘wall of fame’ in the PE Department (pictured here). If you ever pop in, do look out for the sports superstars of the future!
We are sad to say a fond farewell to Miss Herold who is pursuing a career in sports marketing. An Old Girl who graduated in 2020, she has brought a wealth of enthusiasm, kindness and knowledge to lessons and fixtures that the students and staff will miss. Last week, the U12A lacrosse team won the South West Rally under her tutelage, making her a very happy coach indeed. We wish you all the very best for the future.
