On Thursday 8 May, SHSK celebrated 80 years since Victory in Europe with a range of activates.
Lower School students were asked to research and make a creative response to a veteran, or significant individuals experience in the War which were then displayed in old school Hall alongside celebratory VE decorations. At 12 o’clock, we participated in a schoolwide two minutes of silence to reflect on those who lost their lives during the war. Lunch was themed around rationing, which truly emphasized the atmosphere in 1945, and this was further reinforced by the playing of radio broadcasts and 1940s music throughout lunch. Winston Churchill even made an appearance in the form of a life-sized cardboard cutout on the way to lunch. Overall, the day was a mixture of celebration but also remembrance for how fortunate we are today.
