Sketches by the sea: a creative journey through Cornwall

Bea (Y10)

The Art trip to Cornwall was an amazing experience, filled with fun and creativity.

We visited Hauser and Wirth gallery and also Penlee house and gardens, where we looked at the artworks, and did some sketching and other exercises. We also visited Tremenheere sculpture garden, where we had free time to wander the gardens and do some observational drawings. We also visited Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth museum, where we took photos and sketched. In the evenings we then turned all these sketches and drawings into full sketchbook pages, as part of our GCSE coursework.

We all enjoyed the workshop on the beach with Rowena Tarplee, where we experimented with different mark making techniques, using ink and objects such as sticks and leaves. On the way home we enjoyed visiting Roche Court, where we had a tour of the sculptures. The trip gave us inspiration for our new topics, and allowed us to explore and experiment with some new techniques.
