Year 5 took an enriching trip to Oxford to explore the History of Science and Pitt Rivers museums.
First stop was History of Science, where students attended two workshops: the first one included a lot of fun activities featuring space. They learned about every planet, historical artefacts and brilliant scientists. The other workshop was on telescopes, but not ordinary ones, ancient telescopes that were used to find stars and planets. However, as it wasn’t night time yet, the students looked around Oxford instead. They looked at bookstores, colleges and even just normal people just walking around the streets. After a quick snack break, it was time to depart to their next stop…which was the Pitt Rivers Museum.
The students were given a tour around the whole museum, especially around the Benin section as this is their current topic. They learned all sorts of facts, seeing a side of Benin that they had never seen before. After lunch it was then time to do some of their own exploring. There were masks, pots, jars, and so many amazingly unique things. Soon after it was time to go to the gift shop where small groups were taken out to buy whatever they desired, within reason – and their budget.
Year 5 students really enjoyed their museums experience and hope to go again.
