Students from Years 7 and 8 participated in the Carnegie Quiz with neighbouring schools on Friday, 8 May. Maggie and Alex share their thoughts about the experience.
We set out for Larkmead at the end of lunch break and arrived at their school library along with Carnegie Shadowers from John Mason School, Fitzharrys and Europa.
We started off the afternoon with Miss Stone, Larkmead’s Librarian, introducing us to their school and lovely library. We then got to know the other members of our quiz teams which were made up of pupils from each of the schools.
Teams were a given ten questions for each of the eight books on the Carnegie’s 2026 shortlist, testing our knowledge and teamwork skills. The quiz was really fun because it was a chance to meet new people and discuss the books we had all had a great time reading. Halfway through we were given cookies and a drink (they were very tasty) then we were back to the quizzing.
At the end, prizes were given out to the winning team and the runners up. There was also a chocolate prize for a Star Shadower from each school. We gave a huge thank you to Larkmead for hosting us and all the amazing librarians who organised a fantastic quiz and have encouraged us to have an amazing time participating in Carnegie Shadowing. We had a fun afternoon and are looking forward to the Forum that will be hosted at our school this June.
