At St Helen and St Katharine, each day brings something new. Select a section below to get an overview of the structure of the school day and a flavour of all that the life of a HelKat has to offer.
Before the school day begins, you have the option to book morning supervision. During this time, your daughter can catch up on work, relax or socialise with her friends in a comfortable environment.
Every day your daughter will be welcomed into the classroom for morning registration. As students settle in, they can catch up with friends and check in with their teachers during form time.
At least once per week, SHSK Prep will take part in an assembly and each term they will participate in several House meetings. These events will enable your daughter to meet and connect with older students, helping to develop a sense of togetherness within our community.
During their core numeracy lesson, your daughter will develop fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills through a variety of engaging mathematical activities. By exploring different strategies and explaining their thinking, students will build confidence, deepen their understanding and learn to apply their knowledge in a range of contexts.
This will be followed by French, where language learning is brought to life through speaking, listening and cultural activities. Through interactive lessons, your daughter will build vocabulary, develop communication skills and gain an appreciation for French language and culture.
During this double English lesson, your daughter will develop her reading, writing, comprehension and spelling skills through a range of engaging activities. Lessons are designed to foster a love of language and literature while building confidence in communication, critical thinking and self-expression.
SHSK Prep go into lunch at 11.55am, giving your daughter time to choose their lunch before the other year groups.
SHSK Prep will have their own dedicated lunch area in the Refectory, and staff will be there to support them and ensure that everyone enjoys their lunch and is well fed. Our nutritious lunches cater for all, providing a well-balanced and varied choice of food.
After eating, your daughter can enjoy the outdoor play area or join one of our lunchtime clubs.
Afternoon lessons start at 1.15pm. Typically this would be a time for Music, Drama or Outdoor Learning.
There is bound to be an activity that strikes a chord in Music and in Drama. At least once per week, your daughter will enjoy developing skills during Outdoor Learning – from teamwork and problem-solving to fire lighting, tent pitching and campfire cooking at our Church Farm.
A chance for SHSK Prep to have extended time to refuel on cookies, enjoy some fresh air and have fun with their friends before a final round of lessons for the day.
For the final lessons of the day, your daughter might enjoy exploring the world around her through Science, History or Geography. Whether investigating scientific concepts, uncovering stories from the past or developing an understanding of different places and environments, these lessons encourage curiosity, critical thinking and a deeper appreciation of the world. The day could also end with a PE lesson, where students can develop their physical skills, teamwork and confidence in our impressive sports facilities.
Wait one moment! Before heading home or off to an after-school club, we end the school day with an afternoon registration.
