L6 students enjoyed a trip to the theatre and took in the Christmas lights of London
This production of Othello was the biggest Shakespeare event of the year. It starred David Harewood, Toby Jones and Caitlin Fitzgerald. The professional reviews had not been kind to the show, but St Helen’s students and teachers alike were much more impressed by this pacey interpretation that tested the boundary between comedy and tragedy in how we respond to the benign face of evil.
We enjoyed a debrief of the play over pizza afterwards, before a competitive burst of word games around the table. Students will, in the end, use their notes on the play in their A level exam but, more importantly, we were all reminded of the value of live theatre in the realisation of the page on the stage.
