In the first week of the Easter holidays, Years 10 and 11 set off on an educational and fun packed trip to Lyon.
We were busy from morning until night, our day packed with all sorts of activities: three hours of French speaking lessons, followed by guided tours around the bustling and beautiful city, and not to mention everyone’s favourite part of the day: the shopping. Finally, we would come home to our host families, to warm delicious food and a night of relaxation.
The French lessons taught me all sorts of new words and grammar points, from a new way to say ‘passer du temps,’ to the word for mashed potatoes. We covered an extensive range of topics, from the city culture, to technology, holidays, and my personal favourite: food around the world.
But the French wasn’t the only thing I learnt, as I also learnt how wonderful the city of Lyon is, and how extensive its culture. Everyday was filled with a new aspect of Lyonnais culture: the Olympique football stadium, the house of the Lumière brothers and their wonderful creations, to a walking tour of the old city, mirroring the stunning boat tour on the first day.
My favourite moment (aside from the shopping of course!) was the walking tour of Old Lyon, as it was incredible to see so many different pieces of Lyonnais history and culture in just two hours, not the mention the beautiful buildings, all whilst being with my friends.
If you are considering going on the trip, I would highly recommend it, as you will make plenty of unforgettable memories, in addition to helping you prepare for your GCSEs and speaking French outside of the classroom. The Lyon trip was amazing and definitely my favourite SHSK trip!
