On 14 November, we welcomed Radley students and teachers to the School for the opportunity to debate together.
It proved to be a spirited and thought-provoking evening, as mixed teams tackled the motion, “This House believes that expertise is overrated.”
Following an intense preparation session, the debate opened with four speakers on each side presenting compelling arguments on the value of expertise, including its importance in scientific advancement and informed democracy, as well as its potential to foster elitism or to overshadow broader skill development in today’s society.
After a hard-fought and engaging exchange, the Opposition emerged victorious. The evening continued with a beautifully arranged dinner in the Chapel, followed by an equally competitive quiz that brought the evening to a lively close.
Special thanks to the School Chaplain, Revd Dr Karen Hyde for providing us with such a wonderful setting for dinner, and to (then) Head Chef Eammon for preparing his final formal meal at St Helen and St Katharine.
