Football successes over Michaelmas term

Bethany Hawtin, Head of Football

The introduction of our U13B team demonstrates the depth of progress for football at St Helen’s.

It has been great to see the number of participants in football continue to rise. We have had a great number of Year 7 students arriving and keen to play football, with their understanding of the game improving hugely this term.

The U13A team have again shown their talent and they will be playing in the semi-final of the County Cup after the Christmas holidays. Our senior team has continued their success from last year already putting themselves in the final 16 of three different national competitions.

So far this football season, it has been an incredible journey for our first team. Despite an unfortunate 4-0 loss in our first friendly match of the year, we were not discouraged, going on to win four out of our next five games and progressing to the final 16 of both ISFA and ESFA competitions. Among these results was a proud 3-2 win against Millfield School and a hard-fought 5-4 win against Kennet School after a nail-biting extra time. Another notable win was an impressive 9-0 against Park House School, who were also successfully beaten by our U15 A team, winning 3-0. Well done to the U14A team, who have made a great start to the county cup by winning 1-0 against Shiplake College. The county cup has also been a successful competition for our U13As, who have been busy showcasing their talent. They await an exciting game in the third round after beating the Cheney school 3-2 and Oxford Spires Academy 4-0. Hard luck to the U12A and U13B teams who have showed great talent and relentlessness in their games, fighting hard against their opponents despite unfortunate losses. Overall, it has been an outstanding start to the season, well done to all!
