Lower School’s Production of The Little Mermaid

Over the past year, both students and staff have been working hard to put together The Little Mermaid production.

Rehearsals began in late 2025 and were running weekly until recently – along with a few lengthy Sunday rehearsals, which cast members begrudgingly attended. Having been one of the Assistant Directors and Stage Managers in the show, I was able to see just how much work everyone put in. Overall, the cast sang around 12 songs, complete with solos, ensemble lines and energetic dancing – particularly in a lively rendition of Under the Sea.

The sentiment of the production being a ‘really great experience that helped make so many new friends across many year groups’ was one shared by the whole cast. When asking people for quotes, not one person could go without mentioning the fact that being a part of The Little Mermaid had widened their friend groups and brought many new opportunities. Getting to work with the cast meant that I was able to see how close they all were, with students saying that they felt the cast was ‘welcoming and inclusive, no matter the role you played’ which is a sentiment shared around the school.

Miss Day – the wonderful director – was full of praise for the students, and before the performance, said that she was ‘really looking forwards to seeing all of the cast, crew and bands hard work coming to life on stage tonight and I hope everyone who comes to watch enjoys it.’ All the comments after performances were positive and congratulations were given to not only the year 7’s and 8’s who worked hard on stage, but also towards the members of staff, crew and band, without whom the performance couldn’t have happened.

Overall, the entire experience was wonderful, and something that everyone involved should be proud of. It’ll be a performance remembered for years to come. Well done everyone!
