Students immersed themselves in the world of astronomy, observing the Sun through our Vespera Astro camera, constructing pinhole cameras ahead of the partial solar eclipse on the 12 August and learning about eclipses, lunar phases, and the Perseid meteor shower.
Here are some key things our Physics Department suggest looking out for this summer:
- Partial (90%) solar eclipse – 12 August
- Perseids meteor shower – all summer, peaks around 11-13 August
- Summer Triangle Stars
- Partial lunar eclipse – 28 August, from 2.30am to 5.15am
- The Milky Way
- ISS spotting
If you have a telescope, these will be worth looking at:
- Planets (especially Saturn)
- Andromeda Galaxy
- Ring Nebula and Dumbbell Nebula
- The partial lunar eclipse – 28 August (look at where the shadow lies, the craters will be very clear)
