This compulsory training weekend prepared the girls for Duke of Edinburgh expeditions later in the year.
Following an introductory briefing, students gathered into small groups for the weekend. They worked with qualified instructors who introduced them to expedition skills and showed them how to use equipment. There were a variety of tasks, some practical and outdoors, others were indoor theory sessions, discussions and the chance to ask questions about all aspects of the award, particularly about the expedition section.
This weekend was a great opportunity for students to gain ‘hands-on’ experience and develop their own skills and confidence in the outdoor environment. Nellie said, “I’ve had a great day and it’s made me really excited for the expedition now.”
