Beware the Jabberwock – the jaws that bite, the claws that catch! The Junior Department was joined by students from Sunningwell Primary School to celebrate National Poetry Day with children’s author and poet Kate Scott. The Juniors spent the morning reading and exploring nonsense poetry by Lewis Carroll and other greats, followed by a lunchtime workshop centred around writing poetry from different perspectives.
Commenting on the day, Edlyn (Y6) said: ‘National Poetry Day was really enjoyable. The poet Kate Scott was enthusiastic and encouraged us to use our imaginations. I will not forget such an amazing day.’
Other students enjoyed the event too, Florence (Y5) said that she really enjoyed seeing things from a writer’s point of view, while Ananyaa (Y6) shared that she enjoyed hearing Kate’s performance of her poems most.
