Reaching for the stars with Dr Maggie Aderin Pocock MBE

Maddie (U6H)

We were fortunate enough to have a talk by author, space scientist and presenter for the BBC’s The Sky at Night, Dr Maggie Aderin Pocock MBE.

During the talk, we learned about her incredibly interesting and varied careers, including working in the Ministry of Defence, making handheld land mine detectors, working on the Gemini telescope in Chile and having a star appearance on The Clangers! It was so inspiring to learn about the range of opportunities open to those who study physics and engineering and to hear about her own experiences growing up with undiagnosed dyslexia.

We all greatly enjoyed the evening which really highlighted the versatility and the rewarding nature of science and left us feeling excited about what we might be able to accomplish in the future.
