In November, I attended the ‘Careers in Media’ talk where we listened to four key speakers who were all St Helen’s alumnae. Speakers included classical music writer, Mel Spencer; senior marketing manager at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, Catherine Turner-Hall; Zenia Selby, a documentary producer and author; and Hester Swan – a production assistant for an indie film company.
Each speaker discussed their experiences within their specific careers, as well as the highs and lows of the media industry and what advice they would give us on getting a job in the sector. I thought it was really useful to get an insight into the variety of work within the media. It’s renowned as a difficult industry to enter so I loved the opportunity to hear first-hand what their journeys were like to get into positions they have now.
