On Tuesday 6 February, Year 10 and Sixth Form dramatists visited the Barbican theatre in London to see the return of the Royal Shakespeare Company and Joe Hisaishi’s awe-inspiring live production of My Neighbour Totoro. Written by Tom Morton-Smith, the award-winning stage adaptation of a Studio Ghibli classic follows the story of two sisters who encounter magical forest creatures while adjusting to life in the countryside.
Grace (U6D) commented: ‘My Neighbour Totoro was the perfect encapsulation of childish joy and the pain of the possibility of losing a parent. The use of puppets had me on the edge of my seat and unlocked my imagination as I discovered a world of varying-sized fluffy rabbits and bear-like creatures. It also provided lots of inspiration for upcoming Year 10 and Lower Sixth devised performances. I couldn’t recommend it more, -what an excellent way to spend a Tuesday evening!’
