It was an amazing day for our U14 and U18 footballers on 25 April as both teams competed in their finals.
St Helen’s U14s kicked off the day at Oxford City Football Club where they played against Cherwell School in the Oxfordshire County Finals and then, later in the day, our senior 1st team competed against Surbiton High in the ISFA U18s Girls Trophy Final in Letchworth. Both teams put in a phenomenal effort, coming runners-up in their respective competitions.

U14s
The U14 team had a nail-biting Oxfordshire county cup final against Cherwell School at Oxford City Stadium. The game started in St Helen’s favour with a great switch of play from Scarlett to Emily out wide, which allowed her to put the ball in the box for Mia to get the goal. Despite the back four doing an amazing job to keep Cherwell’s very talented attackers out, they managed to get two goals back to take the lead with 35 minutes to play. St Helen’s pushed all the way to the end, really trying to get the equalisers, but unfortunately couldn’t quite succeed. The students played excellent football; they thoroughly deserved the medal and to be ranked as the second-best team in the county.
U18s
What a great experience for our 1st team, who headed to Hertfordshire FA County Ground for the ISFA U18s Girls Trophy Final. The team knew they had a tough match ahead of them as they were playing Surbiton High School – a team who had won their semi-final draw 11-0.
The game started with Surbiton getting an early lead, but that did not dampen the spirit or fight of the St Helen’s players. They soon made a comeback with great team possession and a through ball to Charlotte who used her speed and power to challenge the keeper and put the ball in the back of the net. The team went in at half-time 1–2 to Surbiton with spirits high and ready to battle again. Surbiton managed to win the game 4–1 through great play, but the St Helen’s team battled to the very end, keeping Surbiton’s score down and creating many chances. The students showed the fantastic progress they have made – and what a great footballing team they are becoming.
