On Saturday 7 September, we welcomed the Class of 2020 back to school for a proper send-off.
They missed out on so many of the traditional St Helen’s farewell events in their Upper Sixth, as they hastily got sent home in March 2020, due to Covid.
We were delighted to see so many of them again last Saturday and welcomed them with a drinks reception. This was followed by a belated farewell assembly in the Yolande Paterson Hall, where Mrs Dougall relived those final days prior to their departure. They were then ushered into the Refectory to enjoy a classic St Helen’s lunch. You have guessed it, on the menu was Katsu chicken, curly fries, a tasty sticky toffee pudding as well as a large quantity of cookies! After a social lunch and lots of laughter, the group toured the school, remembering the old and marvelling at the new since their departure.
We were thrilled that around 30 former students from the year group were able to join us. Quite a few of them had also participated in the Old Girls’ Lacrosse match earlier on that day. Current and even some former staff also attended the lunch and enjoyed hearing what these amazing young women have been doing for the past four years.
It was wonderful to see the year group back at school again, and we are pleased to have finally given them a proper send-off. We look forward to welcoming them back to other alumnae events in the future and hope they will stay in touch with us and one another.
