Year 7 has recently visited Bhaktivedanta Manor. Read about one student’s experience below.
This was my first time visiting a Hindu Shrine and I learnt many new things.
We started our trip with an enjoyable cart ride pulled by two large Oxen. We were told about the importance of cows and animals. After the ride, we had a tour of all the amazing-smelling rooms and fed various cows with carrots. Our tour “guide” explained that lots of objects they sell are partially made from dung.
Later on, we were given a delicious paneer curry served with chips and rice crackers. Along with the meal, right before we had the opportunity to attend a ceremony. Many beautiful statues of gods and goddesses were decorated with flowers and jewellery. You could smell the perfume and hear the sounds of many Hindus coming together to worship. They all sang, chanted, clapped and prayed. We felt a part of the community and were inspired to keep researching. A lady showed us costumes, told us about gods and answered many questions.
We came back to school reminded of the experience we had witnessed.
