Michaelmas term netball update

Kirsty Harris, Head of Netball

It has been an amazing first term back, with teams getting stuck into fixtures straight away and we’re not stopping yet!

Attendance at extracurricular clubs has been impressive, with students wanting to get involved in as many fixtures as possible, which is excellent. Students have been committed and motivated to make progress in training to transfer into their competitive matches, with their improvement in confidence evident.

The start of our netball season has seen us play local fixtures for all age groups against Downe House, St Hugh’s, Wycombe Abbey, Oxford High, D’Overbroeck’s, St Swithun’s and Our Lady’s Abingdon. As well as these friendly fixtures, we have competed in the Sisters n Sport and School Sport Magazine national competitions, including our B teams who compete in the Sisters n Sport competition. We have advanced in all competitions and I look forward to seeing what each of these competitions brings in the new year.

We look ahead again to the start of February when the U14, U16 and U19 English Schools squads compete in the England Netball Schools Regional Finals with hopes of making it to National Finals. All squads will continue to work hard in their early morning training sessions after the break.

The Lent term is full of friendly fixtures for all age groups with plenty to look forward to for all squads. But most importantly we will be looking forward to the exciting return of March Madness and the fancy dress that comes with it!

U16 Netball Team

Netball for us at school is a great extracurricular activity that provides the whole squad with a fun and energetic opportunity to take a temporary break from academic life – this is particularly welcome during what can be stressful exam years. As well as netball club during the school week, we also have the chance to join early morning netball sessions where we can develop and practise our match play to make us a stronger and more cohesive team. With such a packed schedule in Year 11, it’s a good opportunity to carve out some extra time to socialise with our teammates and get to hang out outside of the classroom. The time we have all invested in clubs and early morning squad has resulted in greater teamwork and enhanced match play which is translating in to improved results at our external fixtures!

1st VII Netball Captains

It has been a great start to the season with much success. The 1st VII, U14A and U13A teams have managed to progress into round four of the Sisters n Sport Cup. With the U12, U13 and U15 teams all progressing to round four in the School Sport Magazine competition. All three age groups qualified for Regionals in February, flying through the county tournament. It has been great as netball captains to help out in the younger years in their

netball training sessions as well as watching some matches and awarding netball captains’ player. It’s been great to see the progress of all year groups in such a short space of time. We look forward to continuing the season after Christmas.
