Michaelmas term hockey update

Miss Pettipher, Head of Hockey

Hockey has taken off this year with six teams being entered into county outdoor tournaments and three in the indoor county tournaments.

Both the U14A and U18A qualified to attend the regional outdoor tournament with fantastic performances. The U16A were very successful in the county indoor competition claiming the title and being undefeated all day. They also progressed to the semi-finals of the regional tournament winning two games and losing two games. Most players are in Year 10 so will get a chance to play again next year; we are all excited for what that brings. After the Christmas break, it will be the turn of the Lower School county rounds!

Alongside county tournaments, we have played in some friendly matches against Headington Rye and Oxford High with wins and losses, but lots of participation! A great experience for all that took part and lots of lessons learned for next time. Here are some student reviews on the U14 and U16 teams.

U16 hockey teams

This hockey season has been one to remember! To begin with, we travelled to Cokethorpe School for our outdoor county rounds! We were all very excited to have some new members of the team and I feel we all performed very strongly together throughout the day, winning an impressive four out of our six matches played! It was a lot of fun and I am looking forward to next year’s county rounds already! Later in the season, we played at the indoor regional hockey tournament, our team really came together and played incredibly well despite the tough competition winning two of our four matches! I particularly enjoyed seeing our gameplay and determination improve throughout the competition and I am very excited for what next year brings!

U14 hockey teams

We arrived at St Edward’s School for our county hockey tournament full of nerves, excitement and sheer determination. When we arrived we were greeted by many different schools around the county and although it was slightly intimidating we kept our spirits high. The atmosphere was filled with an enthusiastic buzz which motivated us to begin the hockey matches. Sadly in the end it resulted in some losses and a draw, but we played to our highest standard, kept our heads high and never for a second let our losses define us as a team. We did score some brilliant goals which were well deserved due to our positive attitude throughout the games. As a team, we succeeded in getting a place at the county regionals and intend to train well and play to our full potential, but most of all enjoy the experience and have fun together as a team.
