A fun spin on a classic tale, the Junior Production of Olive, a Twist! ran from 25-26 June.
This synopsis ran in the programme:
The tale of an orphan who hankered for more,
You’ve read it or heard it or seen it before.
But what if the story was given a twist:
A thrilling new version that couldn’t be missed!
Brimming with songs that’ll stay in your head,
And plenty of action (but nobody dead!).
Wouldn’t you want to consider this show?
Don’t be a dodger, just give it a go!
Some Year 6 students shared their thoughts about being in the production:
“Our favourite part was when we got to sing Stay Crafty,” said Clio (Y6), who played the part of Dodger.
Both students shared that they were able to prepare for their roles in one month, listening to the backtracks of the songs they needed to learn and practising their lines.
“When you have a bigger part, you’re more motivated to memorise your lines,” Tamara (Y6), who played the part of Mrs Fagin explained.
The girls enjoyed the impressive set pieces, props and costumes. “The person who played Olive got to climb through this big window as if they were robbing a house,” Clio said.
They also liked how, in this adaptation, some of the traditionally male characters were female (for example, Olive and Mrs Fagin).
Clio and Tamara also enjoyed playing lead roles, so much so that they plan to audition for the Lower School production next year.
