Welcome from the Headmistress

Welcome to our website and to a glimpse of this amazing school which I am so proud to lead. St Helen and St Katharine is one of the leading girls’ schools in the country and we are justifiably proud of our tradition of high aspiration and celebration of academic achievement. We also take pleasure in the warmth and fun of the atmosphere at school and in the great range of extra-curricular opportunities available to students.

We understand what inspires young women and the particular lense through which they see the world around them, a world which is dynamic, sometimes fraught but also full of opportunities.

This is a happy place and an environment in which relationships built on kindness and respect are forged. Our ambitions for the students are wide-ranging and individualised but we know that the surest foundations on which to build achievement are confidence, creativity, resilience and an open-minded and determined approach to life and learning. The breadth of our offer, which is captured through these web pages, tells of our vision to empower young women to give things a go, to understand the value of participation as surely as the outcome and to celebrate but not revere  success.

Our School is busy and it is beautiful – our lovely campus articulates both our strong sense of community and our aspirations. There are also moments of stillness and reflection: in chapel; in a garden, in quiet conversations with friends or staff. We see the nurturing of character and a contented sense of self as critical elements of a successful journey through the school.

A website provides, at best, a snapshot. Once you have explored the site, I would encourage you to visit us and gain a first-hand impression of the school, its beautiful campus and, most importantly, its students.

I look forward to meeting you and sharing further my pride in leading this outstanding school.

Mrs Rebecca Dougall, Headmistress
