A level Art trip to the Tates

Molly (L6)

A level Art students attended an Art trip on 10 February to London to see the Tate Britain and the Tate Modern.

This experience helped me expand my knowledge and understanding of a wide range of artwork and the significance they convey. It was a very helpful opportunity for all of us as the many different types of art in both museums were able to aid us in the development of our personal projects that we are working on at A level.

We were able to roam freely through the Tates as we pleased and if we wanted to see a specific exhibition, we were able to book it in advance, which we were advised by our teachers to do – which was very helpful for more specific themes or interests.

Firstly, we went to the Tate Britain, where we were able to experience a wide plethora of famous and talented artists. This was very helpful as everyone had at least one artist they saw in Tate Britain that inspired them and could produce work they could contribute to their A level project.
For me specifically, I was incredibly excited to see the wide range of Francis Bacon artwork they had displayed, as I am highly inspired by him and researching into his work for my project. We were also prompted to make quick sketches of artworks that inspired us in provided notebooks whilst walking through the Tates. This helped refine our quick sketching skills and gave us artwork we can develop more into in our projects.
After the Tate Britain, we took a quick and scenic boat trip to the Tate Modern and started exploring there. I was able to attend two fascinating exhibitions whilst there that broadened my knowledge of art and helped me in the process of planning my A level work.
Overall, I really enjoyed this trip and found it illuminating when in reference to my work.
