St Helen’s chosen charity for the 2023-24 academic year was Children Heard and Seen.
Dedicated to helping children, young people, and families affected by parental imprisonment, Children Heard and Seen offers tailored one-on-one support from trained practitioners, assistance for parents/carers, peer support groups for both children and carers, engaging online activities, fun-filled activity days and residentials, as well as practical support such as legal advice and guidance on financial well-being.
The School hosted many fundraising initiatives for the charity including the Charity Christmas fair, seasonal bake sales, an Easter egg hunt and a charity dress-up day.
The annual celebration of our patron, St Kate’s Day, launched the fundraising year, raising money from the 2p race and charity fair. As is tradition, students lay coins in patterns in support of our charity. This year, students organised their donations in the shape of eyes.
Charity Prefect Milly (U6) shares her thoughts:
“As a Charity Prefect, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to lead our school’s fundraising initiatives and see our community come together to raise money for a fantastic cause.
Over the past year, we have organized a range of events, including yummy bake sales, formal dinners, a hilarious play and many more, collectively raising significant funds for Children Heard and Seen. These events have not only brought our school together as a community and have been a lot of fun but have also heightened awareness of the issues Children Heard and Seen are addressing which we are grateful to have the ability to help.
Looking ahead, we have an exciting calendar planned, featuring innovative ideas such as a sponsored run/walk/cycle called our ‘Coast to coast charity challenge’, another fun St Kate’s Day with our renowned 2p race and a charity Christmas fair. I am excited to see everyone getting involved, as they have done so brilliantly this past year, as we are all dedicated to making a meaningful difference through our charitable efforts.”
