The week of 11 November is the Anti-Bullying Alliance’s Anti-Bullying Week.
The 2024 theme is Choose Respect. Students took part in Odd Socks Day to mark the start of Anti-Bullying Week.
Izzy (U6), the School’s 2024-25 Laureate, wrote a poem in honour of this special week.
Tuesday’s Metamorphosis
Back alleys, playgrounds, amidst trees and fields
Again its incessant whines interweave with whilsted winds.
It – a mass of fur strewn across the floor –
Its snout sodden with slobber, shaking with each heaving pant as
The boot lands in its homely indent of
Side, back, leg.
Its whimpering
Muffled by the cackled laughter of those who gleefully torment.
Yet, when they leave to put up their aching feet,
(Bloodied boots, a hunter’s spoils)
By the fire, accomplished
It is you who is left to see it shudder its hooked claws into the crooked point of calloused fingers;
Its snout shrinks, tongue tamed
It catches the beastly howl between the gasps of its stifled sobs
As its void-like eyes blink into a piercing plea of greens and blues.
Yet still you turn your head
And wait for tomorrow’s hunt.
