Juniors have been working on the RSPB Wild Challenge, which encourages students to complete activities to experience and help nature.
They must complete three activities in each category to gain a Bronze level, three more each for Silver and three more for Gold.
Year 6 have received their Bronze certificates and their Silvers are on the way!
Current Year 5 and new Year 6 are now doing activities towards Bronze and Year 6 (from last year) have now started to progress towards Gold.
As a result of their engagement in this programme, St Helen’s has been awarded ‘Schools For Nature’ accreditation.
“Over the last academic year, you and your pupils have demonstrated you care about nature and wildlife,” wrote the RSPB Wild Challenge Team. “You’ve done amazing things, and these may have already been recognised through our national nature conservation organisations.”
Year 6 students Tamara, Sophia and Sumi shared some of the activities they’ve been working on including whittling, making bird feeders, planting a wildflower meadow and making a bug hotel or hibernaculum.
“We feel very excited about receiving our certificates,” said Tamara. “Primary schools don’t usually get to do these kinds of activities,” added Sumi.
