Lent half term sport round up

SHSK School

It has been a busy Lent term for sport! We are extremely proud to have been ranked 49th out of 200 schools for sport in England and 8th all girls school by School Sport Magazine.

Our U15 football team began by winning round one of the county cup with a score of 5–2, all whilst wearing their brand-new football kit. In addition, our U14s reached round 2 of the county cup, and our U18s are into round 2 of the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) shield.

Students competed in several categories at the national Great Big Dance Off solo dance competition. Out of 51 soloists, Emily H and Emilie E in Year 8 came 28th and 31st place respectively. Meanwhile, Anabelle J (Year 11) came 11th place and Alice W (Year 10) came 15th place out of 52 soloists in their category.

In cross country, Year 8 students Scarlett S and Mary H took part in the Oxfordshire country cross country championships with Scarlett placing 6th and Mary 10th. Juniors also took part in the Manor Prep’s cross country event with our Year 5 team coming 3rd overall and Bea M coming 3rd place individually.

Our netball teams continue to shine with our U12, U13 and U15 netball teams all reaching the semi-finals of the School Sport Magazine National Schools Netball Cup, and our U15A and U16 teams have reached the quarter-finals of the Sisters n Sport cup. Additional congratulations go to our U14B team who are in round four of the Sisters n Sport shield. Also in netball, St Helen’s U14, U16 and U19 netballers all progressed to the regional schools competition – with the U16 coming 3rd overall.

It’s been great to see so much swimming going on this term with friendly fixtures, galas at Wycombe Abbey and a first mixed water polo match for sixth from girls and boys from Abingdon.

U13A, B and C cricketers were successful in the indoor cricket county, with the A team now also through to the regional finals in April held at Edgbaston.Well done also to our U15A and B players who have gained a place in the indoor cricket finals at the end of February.

And, most recently, we hosted a huge weekend of lacrosse at Church Farm with several schools attending the Senior Top Test tournament. There were some super competitive matches – huge congratulations to our 2nd team on winning their match 11–4, U15s for their 13–5 success, U14s 6–5, U13s 6–5 and U12s 5–5.
