The Jazz Afternoon showcased exceptional musical talent and an emotional send-off of our beloved Director of Music, Ms Rakowski.

Held in the quad where the sun shone brightly, guests were served strawberries and Pimm’s amongst other refreshments and sat back to enjoy the music.

The event was hosted by Big Band, who started off the afternoon, setting an upbeat tone for what followed, which included incredible pieces done by other bands, groups and soloists, including the staff choir who enthusiastically joined in the fun. The highlight of the afternoon and one of the most moving moments that left many teary-eyed was the rendition of ‘So Long, Farewell’, sung by current students and the many alumnae who joined us. This tribute to Ms Rakowski reflected the deep gratitude of the music department, the profound impact she had on the lives of her students, and just how greatly she will be missed. The celebration concluded with ‘All-Star’ big band, in which Big Band was joined by alumnae and staff to perform some all-time favourites, including ‘Take on Me’, ‘Gonna Fly Now’ and ‘Happy’.

All in all, it was a truly memorable afternoon that gave Ms Rakowski the celebration and farewell she deserved.
