This May, we welcomed professional cricketers to speak to students about their experiences at our annual Sports Awards Evening. Lauren Bell, current England international and Southern Viper, and Dani Gibson, current England squad member, Western Storm and London Spirit player, joined the Upper Sixth in presenting the winners of the awards for 2023.
Students from Upper Sixth took us down memory lane for the past year with Sports Captain 2022-23, Tali, giving her reflections of being at St Helen’s since Year 5, and the netball and lacrosse sports captains giving an overview of the major sports we offer. We wish all the leavers the very best for their sporting future. Don’t forget to get involved in sports teams at university to make friends as soon as you arrive!
We also welcomed Georgie as Sports Captain for 2023-24.
An amazing evening of celebration culminating in the inaugural presentation of the Team of the Year award. Year 8 students have been phenomenal this year, their list of achievements include: ECB Schools Indoor National Cricket champions, Sisters n Sport national netball plate winners, South West lacrosse champions, 3rd place in National Schools lacrosse, national swimming finals, 3rd place in the regional hockey competition, Sisters n Sport national football plate runners up and qualifying for the ESAA Track and Field Cup national finals. There is so much depth and talent across the whole year group that we cannot wait to see how they progress as individuals and team mates across the next few years.
We thank all the captains this year for their leadership and hard work on and off the pitch. We are pleased to introduce the senior captains for next year as follows:
- Netball captains: Bessie B and Erin C
- Lacrosse captains: Esme B and Georgie L
- Football captain: Charlotte B
- Swimming captain: Lillia B
- Cricket captain: Kitty S
Congratulations to all the students who won awards, received certificates and who have taken part in all School sport this year.
