We are incredibly proud of the 11 St Helen’s students who have just received offers from Oxford and Cambridge.
Their hard work and dedication are impressive, and the range of courses is a testament to the diverse interests and talents of our students.
Students received offers from the University of Oxford to study Earth Sciences, English, History and Music, and from the University of Cambridge to study Classics, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography and Mathematics.
At St Helen’s, Oxbridge preparation is an ongoing process that begins in the classroom for every student and is woven into the ethos of our supercurricular opportunities, scholarships, the Helena Academic Programme, Tea and Talks, academic lectures, academic clubs and societies, OX14 Oxbridge Club, and every academic enrichment opportunity we provide.
Our Oxbridge Programme really begins in earnest in Sixth Form. Oxbridge applications require a rigorous preparation programme due to the interviews and sometimes admissions tests and submitted work that form part of the process.
Our subject specialists will prepare students for admissions tests if that is relevant, and students will sit a formal mock admissions test in September. Admissions tests are a really important part of the admissions process and should receive as much if not more, attention than a student’s personal statement.
As students start the preparation process in Lower Sixth, they will be encouraged to learn from their counterparts in the year above who have also applied to Oxbridge, and our subject specialists will share supercurricular opportunities such as essay competitions, lectures and taster days.
Our Futures programme is rooted in our expertise in advising and guiding young women to achieve their goals. It’s about encouraging students to lift their gaze above A levels in order to inspire, challenge and prepare them for life after school.
