St Helen’s in Tatler Schools Guide 2025

We are delighted to feature in the Tatler Schools Guide 2025. Tatler says that our wonderful school is a ‘…place where bright teenagers with inquiring minds bloom and grow into erudite young women’. Read the full entry below.

“By all accounts, this selective Oxfordshire day school is a place where bright teenagers with inquiring minds bloom and grow into erudite young women (with 73 per cent of A-levels graded A*-A). ‘This is no place for either flicky-haired posh girls or polite, competitive intellectuals,’ says one parent. It ‘feels vibrant, spirited and inclusive’.

“On the up, too. A new Sixth-form centre, the Benedict Building, had an exceptional first year, hosting the school’s inaugural Business of Sport conference to explore opportunities in that arena. And a new Activities Week was introduced, giving the HelKats a chance to enjoy everything from science trips to theme parks and a one-day film school.

“With 2028 marking the school’s 125th birthday, the Anniversary Bursary Appeal was launched in May. Pastoral care is strong, and the school says: ‘Talking things through – whether it’s a molehill or a mountain – is immensely important at St Helen’s and we are proud that students of all ages confirm that they know there is always someone that they can talk to.’ Meanwhile, the beautiful chapel’s centenary was celebrated in style with a series of special dinners, a concert featuring scratch choirs, and the creation of a unique artwork, Space Whispers.

“There was success on the cricket pitch, too: the U13 and U15 teams both won their ECB Schools National Indoor Cricket Finals at Lord’s. And, of course, the entire establishment enjoyed the time-honoured tradition of the ‘HelKat Hokey-Cokey’, performed on the quad each July to bid a fond farewell to leavers.”
