St Helen’s mathematicians make the New York Times

Two of our magnificent mathematicians have made the New York Times (NYT) this term – we believe this was a first for St Helen’s!

Mia (10L) and Verity (L6D) were selected as finalists among 245 submissions in the international Einstein Mad Hat Awards hosted by the MoMath National Museum of Mathematics, New York and the UK Maths Trust. Mia and Verity were awarded £1000 each and were invited to attend a special ceremony at the Houses of Parliament where they met Baroness Walmsley; Dave Smith, who discovered the 13-sided polygon; and American mathematician Chaim Goodman-Strauss.
