The U16A team had a tough start to their football this academic year playing Chipping Norton in the National Cup R1. The game started with the other team getting on top with an early goal. St Helen’s soon were on top in the game, pushing to get an equaliser with many chances but their keeper did an excellent job at keeping the goals out.
The equaliser came halfway into the second half with Hafeeza scoring an excellent goal from outside the area. Against the run of play, Chipping Norton managed to get a second goal and take the lead for the second time in the game.
Not letting their heads go down by the goal, St Helen’s managed to get level again by Emma using her speed to get past the defence and slotting the ball past the keeper. With all level at full time, extra time saw St Helen’s pushing for a goal but many attempts were denied by their keeper. Despite being on top of the U16s and Eleanor playing her first game in goal and saving a penalty, the team lost on the 5th penalty of the game meaning they have been knocked out of the cup.
