The Summer Concert took place on 13 June 2023 with a wide range of ensembles showcasing musicians from our Junior Department, Lower School and Middle School. There were performances from choirs, orchestras, string, wind and brass groups. Two musicians wrote the following reviews:
‘Our annual Summer Concert was a wonderful evening of music, with a wide range of composers and ensembles. I played the violin in Sinfonietta and Team Pachelbel, the flute in Sinfonia, and sang in the Lower School Choir.
In the largest group, Sinfonietta, we played Beethoven’s “Hymn to Joy” and Badelt’s “Pirates of the Caribbean”. It was exciting to fill the YPH with our sound, especially with the Pirates of the Caribbean music.
A particular highlight was Sophie’s (8J) beautiful solo in Huff’s arrangement of “Mamma Mia!” sung by Lower School Choir. I also especially enjoyed the experience of an only violins’ group (Team Pachelbel) playing “La Payanca” and “Cotton-Eyed Joe”, as they are such fun pieces.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I feel that it has helped me to improve as a musician.’
Emilia (7J)
‘I played in Sinfonia on the double bass where we played “Can Can”. In Sinfonietta, we played “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Ode to to Joy” and I played those on the flute. In Wind Orchestra, we played “Thunderstruck”, music from the Lion King and the “Banana Boat” song. I played the piccolo. I loved the feeling of playing in the groups and also watching other groups play. I enjoyed playing different instruments with different people. I would like to do it again.’
